Acceptable Use Policy
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") describes activities and content that are not permitted on CrateDrive ("the Service"). It supplements our Terms of Service and the DMCA Policy. Violation of this AUP may result in suspension or termination of your account, removal of content, and other actions described in the Terms.
If you have a question about whether a particular use is permitted, contact us at support@cratedrive.com before proceeding.
1. Prohibited Content
You may not upload, store, share, or otherwise make available through the Service any content that:
1.1 Infringes Intellectual Property
- Copyrighted music, audio, or other works that you do not own or have a license to use;
- Unauthorized stems, remixes, or edits of others' work that you do not have permission to distribute;
- Content that infringes trademarks, trade secrets, or other intellectual property rights;
- Content provided to you under license terms that prohibit cloud storage or backup.
A note for DJs. Backing up your personally licensed music library for your own use is the core use case of the Service. However, sharing those files with others via share links may exceed your license rights. You are responsible for understanding what your music licenses permit.
1.2 Is Illegal or Harmful
- Material depicting the sexual exploitation or abuse of minors. Such material will be reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and law enforcement as required by law.
- Content that promotes terrorism, organized violence, or incitement to imminent harm;
- Content that violates export control or sanctions laws;
- Content that facilitates illegal drug sales, human trafficking, or other criminal activity.
1.3 Is Deceptive or Misleading
- Content that impersonates another person or entity in a way intended to defraud;
- False information presented as factual to deceive recipients of share links.
1.4 Threatens or Harasses
- Content that contains credible threats of violence or serious harm;
- Content that is defamatory, libelous, or knowingly false in a way that damages another person's reputation;
- Targeted harassment of an individual.
1.5 Contains Malware
- Files containing viruses, worms, trojans, ransomware, spyware, or any other malicious code;
- Files designed to exploit vulnerabilities in third-party software.
2. Prohibited Activities
You may not use the Service to:
2.1 Circumvent Limits
- Attempt to bypass storage quotas, file size limits, share-link rate limits, or other technical controls;
- Create multiple accounts to obtain additional free storage or to evade restrictions;
- Use the Service in ways that intentionally degrade performance for other users.
2.2 Abuse Our Infrastructure
- Access the Service through automated means (bots, scrapers, headless browsers) other than through our published, documented APIs;
- Make a volume of API requests inconsistent with normal interactive use;
- Probe or scan the Service for vulnerabilities except as part of a documented security disclosure process;
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts, systems, or data not belonging to you;
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service or the desktop application except where permitted by applicable law.
2.3 Resell or Repackage
- Resell access to the Service to third parties;
- Use the Service as a backend for a competing product or service;
- Use storage quotas as a substitute for general-purpose object storage unrelated to DJ libraries.
2.4 Misuse Share Links
- Share links to material you do not have the right to distribute;
- Distribute share links via spam, unsolicited email, or other unwelcome channels;
- Use share links to facilitate large-scale unauthorized redistribution.
2.5 Interfere with the Service
- Conduct any denial-of-service (DoS or DDoS) attack against the Service;
- Use the Service to launch attacks against third parties;
- Probe or test the Service in ways that create excessive load.
3. Storage Use Expectations
The Service is designed to back up DJ audio libraries. While we don't restrict file types beyond what is reasonable for that purpose, the Service is not designed for and should not be used as:
- A general-purpose file backup service for non-music content (use Backblaze, Dropbox, or similar);
- A content delivery network (CDN) for public file distribution at scale;
- A development or build artifact storage system;
- A hosting platform for video, software, executable files, or non-audio content beyond what is incidental to a DJ library (cover art, library metadata).
Accounts that store substantial volumes of unrelated content may be asked to remove that content or upgrade to a plan that better fits their use, or may be terminated.
4. Account Conduct
You agree not to:
- Misrepresent your identity, age, or affiliation when creating an account;
- Use someone else's account credentials without their permission;
- Share your account credentials with others except where authorized within the Service (for example, sharing files via share links);
- Sell, transfer, or assign your account to another person.
5. Enforcement
We may, at our sole discretion, take any of the following actions in response to a violation of this AUP:
- Issue a warning;
- Remove or disable access to specific content;
- Restrict or suspend account access;
- Terminate the account;
- Refer the matter to law enforcement or other authorities;
- Pursue legal remedies including damages.
Our enforcement decisions are case-by-case. Where reasonable, we will notify you of the violation and allow time to correct it. For severe or willful violations (CSAM, malware distribution, network attacks), we will terminate immediately without notice.
6. Reporting Violations
If you encounter content or activity on the Service that violates this AUP:
- Copyright infringement: follow the DMCA Policy.
- Other violations: email support@cratedrive.com with as much detail as possible (description, URLs, timestamps).
We take reports seriously and will investigate promptly. We do not publicly disclose the identity of users who report violations except as required by law.
7. Changes
We may update this AUP from time to time. Material changes will be announced with at least 30 days' notice. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
